If you use the proper method to make cannabis oil, it will be safe to consume and use. So, let’s get started with the process of how to make cannabis oil.
Why use in oil form instead of ground, raw cannabis?
Cannabinoids are fat-soluble, so they get absorbed more when consumed as oil. If you plan to make edibles using cannabis, it’s better to use the oil than sprinkling raw leaves into the mix. Cannabis is better digested when consumed in oil form. Also, you can easily apply cannabis oil to your body for instant pain relief.
Let’s start making some cannabis oil!
You can use marijuana or hemp for making the oil. Hemp oil contains only CBD whereas, oil derived from marijuana contains both CBD and THC. The difference is the THC is psychoactive, making it stronger than oil containing only CBD. Opt for any of the two, as per your requirement. You can grab a bunch of raw cannabis from your garden or a local store.
The first step is decarboxylation. It is the process of activating cannabis by heating it slowly. By activating the cannabis, it becomes more potent. Take one cup of raw cannabis, tear them and keep. Put the cannabis in the oven for 30 minutes at 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
Meanwhile, take a boiler, add water to the bottom pan. To the top section, add one cup of coconut oil. You can also make good use of olive oil. Both coconut and olive oil is excellent for your skin and overall health.
Heat till the oil starts to melt. Take the cannabis out of the oven and add it to the boiler. Start stirring the mixture occasionally. Take extra care to keep the flame on low heat unless you want to burn the whole thing. You can continue heating for around an hour or more. If you have a thermometer, do check if the heat is below 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Note – You can heat longer if you like. The buds will break down, and there will be more flavor in the oil.
After some time, drain the mixture using a strainer into a glass jar. Use gloves for this step if you don’t want to burn your fingers.
Transfer the oil into a storage jar, preferably a glass container with an airtight lid.
Since cannabis has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, you can safely use the oil for months. Store them away from sunlight, preferably in the refrigerator.
