Uber successful self-made entrepreneur and businesswoman Nicole Shiraz is back with her latest venture which has already gained a legion of fans. The former founder and CEO of handbag hire service Boss Ladies, which Nicole quickly grew into a million-dollar company (the brand recently sold to an investor for 1.5 million), has just launched a luxury swimwear label – Nalia Swim.
Unlike other business owners Nicole not only survived but thrived during the pandemic by pivoting her business model and changing products. Selling Boss Ladies allowed Nicole to focus on her real passion – swimwear and gave Nicole the time to re-assess and re-evaluate her business endeavours.
“The pandemic was tough for everyone. But staying positive is what kept me going. I learnt that in difficult times, your mindset is so important in moving forward.” Nicole explains.
Born and raised in Australia but now living the American dream, Nicole started exclusively designing luxury swim and resort pieces.
“Design and fashion was just a hobby for me but during the pandemic I turned this into something more. Then one design led to another and Nalia Swim was born.” Nicole said.
Nicole Shiraz noticed that there was a gap in the market for eco-friendly, versatile and quality swim and resort wear pieces that were at an affordable price point. Nicole ensured her collection was affordable to her target market (generation Y and Z) starting US $79.99. Each luxurious piece is made from local recyclable, vintage materials, fabrics and accessories.
“My focus was on the quality but most importantly sustaining the environment by sourcing from local businesses. I also knew how much local businesses were suffering so I wanted to support them.”
Nalia Swim launched on Nicole‘s birthday in January and it’s first collection, ‘Spring” sold out within just a month after popular Instagram influencers started to wear her pieces in their posts. Her second collection ‘Tulum’ has already been favourable with Nicole receiving positive feedback from consumers. Featuring intoxicating uber luxe pieces, aztec prints and sexy silhouettes all pieces are delicately handmade.
In addition, the start-up has already implemented new technologies such as QR code’s for their customers. The brand also encourages stylish, COVID safe practices with future products including an embellished mask that is makeup proof. Currently, all pieces are available online only but Nalia Swim is looking into expanding into stores soon.
