“Money won’t buy you happiness” is a common saying that many of us have heard in our lifetimes. Although this may be true that money can’t technically buy you happiness, financial security buys you the opportunity to find true happiness. For Shurland Ayers getting to a point where he was self-sustained and financially capable was the first thing he wanted to be checked off the list before pursuing his passion.
Being a successful artist takes a lot of time and energy. Having a 9 to 5 job and then coming home to make music works for some people, but that wasn’t the life Shurland Ayers wanted to live. To fund his dreams and be at peace, he began to research ways to generate his income instead of being dragged down by the corporate world. “The ability to own my time was my North Star,” says Ayers, who ultimately decided to start trading in the New York Stock Exchange to fund his musical career.
Instantly, Ayers was hooked. He began researching and trading 20 hours a day and was practicing Polyphasic sleep cycles. A technique in which he would sleep 3 hours and then a 1-hour nap throughout the day. He took three years off from making music to solidify his trading strategy, which allowed him to have savings to invest in personal studio equipment, travels, and clothes. “There are 11 sectors in the market, so with the extra time from not sleeping, I was able to dive into each of the sectors to see which ones were worth exploring,” mentions Ayers. Being self-sufficient and owning his own time was utterly crucial to Ayers. So instead of hopping right into the music, he spent countless hours creating multiple streams of passive income to supplement his living. This strategy ultimately allowed Shurland to get to the point where he could focus all of his time and energy on making music, and he hasn’t turned back since.
Although it delayed his career by a couple of years, becoming a day trader was the best decision Shurland Ayers could’ve ever made. Having a diverse background makes him unique among other artists. With a military background, college education, and financial literacy Ayers is much more than what meets the eye.
In terms of artistry, having the ability to have creative and quality control over his music to the point where he can create it to his satisfaction is something Ayers prides himself on. He is inspired by the impact he has on the fans that listen to his music, as he often writes about subjects they can relate to. He also brings a unique spin on music by adding a mix of Japanese culture, which he learned when he spent time there as an interviewer. His unique sound has landed him multiple performances, most notable being at the FOX backstage pass 300th episode.
Money may not have bought him happiness, but it helped Shurland Ayers take his career to levels once not thought possible. Becoming financially free through day trading and creating passive income streams allowed Ayers to spend the time he needed to water the musical seed inside of him to grow to a blossoming flower of a career. His musical endeavors are far from over, and we should expect to see many great things from Ayers in the near future.
