How to Build A Successful Business as a Young Twenty-Something

In the age of social media fame and limitless access to online education, more young entrepreneurs have business aspirations than ever before. Now that nearly all of the millennial generation has spent a few years in the workforce, many are already burnt out by their corporate jobs and are looking for alternative and innovative means of making money. Hot on their heels is Generation Z. Though the oldest members of this generation are just 24 years old, this newest generation has already displayed a level of ambition and adaptability that has set them apart from the generations before them. Not long ago, Dan Soviero, founder of Signature Lacrosse, found himself in the same position: young, hungry, and eager to make something of his life.

As young as 10 years old, Dan was already developing his entrepreneur spirit and starting side hustles in his neighborhood. In his early 20’s, driven by a desire to improve the game of Lacrosse, Dan created the “Signature Premium Ball”, which soon became the preferred ball in the NCAA, the Official Ball of Professional Lacrosse, and the Official Ball of Federation of International Lacrosse. Not long after, Dan developed the Signature Partner Program Team Stores, which takes the hassle out of coaches ordering uniforms and fan gear, as individual families and players can order their own uniforms and fan gear in the correct sizing and have it delivered to their houses. This new model allows coaches to focus their time and energy on the game itself instead of ordering uniforms. In the next few years, Dan scaled his business from a concept to a revolutionary product and service to a 7 figure, ultra-successful business. Today, Dan shares his top tips for young, aspiring entrepreneurs.

Stay focused.

As a young business entrepreneur, your success most likely won’t happen overnight. In the age of TikTok fame and Youtube millionaires, success can be deceptive. Very rarely does an individual or business become an instant success. Rather, there are years of work happening behind the scenes. You will experience challenges and setbacks, but as long as you stay focused and continuously return to your goals, your success will come.

Improve your sales skills.

No matter what industry you’re in, chances are you’re going to have to sell your concept, product, or service at some point. Being able to properly pitch your idea will be a vital step in taking your business to the next level. Start honing these skills early, take on a side sales job, or practice your pitch on friends and family.

Base your business on your passion.

If you’re passionate about the product or service you’re creating, waking up and chasing your dreams will be much easier. Dan’s passion for the game of lacrosse drove him to improve the equipment and the game as a whole, even when things got tough, he never lost sight of his passion for the game. Your passion can serve as your guiding light and a source of inspiration even in the darkest times.

Build a team you can trust.

When you’re just starting out, adding a few key players to your business can be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. There is no need to go it alone, if you can find the right people, early on, your business will be much better off in the long run.

Keep your priorities in line.

No matter how excited you are about your business, remember to put yourself and the people that you love first. You can’t run a successful business if you’re burnt out or if you isolate yourself from the people who care about you. Practice self-care and make time for the people in your life.

Building a business while young, can be one of the best ways to get ahead, and set yourself up for a successful financial future. To learn more about Dan Soviero’s story, visit www.signaturelacrosse.com.
