Often, people follow a set route in the span of their lives. You’re born into the world as a baby, and then you learn to play as a child. When you grow older, you enter school and ideally study for over a decade in high school and then pursue higher education if and when you deem it necessary and you have a means of paying for it.
The idea is to find a vocation, which will serve as a foundation for a lifelong career. According to most, education should be the top priority of the young; however, for Jame Naleski, that was not the case.
How it started
When James was seven years of age, his parents decided to enroll him in drum lessons. His older brother, Julian Naleski, was interested in drumming, and they wanted to be fair. Although James enjoyed playing drums, he just fell in love with a piano which was in the same studio as the drums.
He started studying the piano at age seven, and took a year or so off in middle school, and finally ended with a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Music Business. From the beginning, James was more interested in composing than in learning scales, experimenting with keyboards and sound systems than in learning proper fingering.
What drove him
High school for James was just a place he had to go every day, except art classes where he learned how to use a camera and started exploring Apple computers in art and then also in music. He used his lunch money for the year to buy a Powerbook G4 and was hooked.
He started doing professional work from his bedroom, designing album covers and sometimes composing or arranging music for other musicians. In school, he had a small business selling bottled water from his locker until the power that is got wise to him and put a stop to that.
While his parents supported his interests in music, art, and business, they were sure that he also needed to graduate from high school. They had a strong ally in this in the school’s nurse, Madilyn Adamo. She understood he was talented and a bit different and was very helpful to him.
