Tanjina Ashraf Khan Mou is a certified mental health professional, author, entrepreneur, and CEO of MentCouch International. MentCouch is one of the most popular psychology centers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Tanjina Khan has been featured in various prestigious platforms shedding light on the topics of mental health and wellness including “The New Indian Express Newspaper” in 2020. She has also recently been featured in the February 2021 issue of FORBES India where she talked about the financial independence of women and its connection to their wellbeing.

Her company, MentCouch International Psychology Centre stands tall with the vision and mission of spreading and advocating mental health in the community not on in Malaysia but also globally. The company also places high importance on the mental health of the employees and has introduced a “Mental Health Leave” policy within the company. MentCouch is unique and one of its kind because it focuses not only on Mental Health-related disorders but also on the wellbeing aspects like yoga, mindfulness, meditation, behavioral training, life-satisfaction screening, expressive arts, etc. MentCouch’s services are not only meant for people with concerns, but it is also for everyone.

As a young entrepreneur who has been in business for only one year, the success of her company is astounding. Tanjina Khan has recently launched a second venture called “The MentCouch Magazine” which is a free-of-cost Mental Health and wellbeing e-magazine.

Tanjina has a solid foundation in a wide variety of theoretical approaches and specializes in resilience training, behavioral psychology, and positive psychology.

She took time out of her busy schedule and answered a few questions:

Tell us about your journey as an entrepreneur and mental health professional. How did you start?

I started my journey back in March 2020 with my psychology centre MentCouch International Psychology Centre. My team and I have come a long way since then. MentCouch was born with a simple idea in mind of giving back to the community by opening a place that welcomes everyone, not just people with disorders. We place great importance on being high on empathy and friendliness. It was rather a sudden decision because I realized that a 9-5 working environment was not for me and I had to create something of my own that is in line with my ideas and dreams.

What services does your company offer?

We have a variety of psychology and wellbeing services, from therapeutic yoga to psychological consultations, counseling services, mental health assessments, childrens’ developmental/play therapy, and many more. For a full list of services and details, please feel free to take a look at our website: https://mentcouch.com/. Our services are offered online as well, for global clients.

Have you faced any hurdles, setbacks, or challenges so far in your journey?

MentCouch started back in March 2020, when Covid-19 cases were on the rise and the whole world was under lockdown. That itself was the biggest hurdle we faced and we have never had a day without challenges because of the whole pandemic hiatus and the economic situation in the world. Despite all of these, we were able to stand tall and rise above as one of the leading centers in the city.

You are an inspiration to other budding entrepreneurs. What motivates you to be the best in the industry?

My biggest fear is monotony at work because it is mind-numbing and can negatively impact our well-being. Doing what you love is motivating and fulfilling within its self and I believe, it is also the first step towards making your name in the field. I am motivated by being able to make a beneficial contribution. Whether it is guiding a client or training my employees- or completing administrative duties to keep the office in order- I feel good knowing that my efforts are contributing to the progression of the company. I appreciate that my passion for helping was noticed when I received the Global Healthcare Champions Year Award last month from the World Federation of Healthcare Leaders.

Where do you see yourself and your company in the near future?

I see us reaching further to the global community and innovating and adapting to the changes in the field of psychology, as “being fluid” is one of our prime visions.

What are your dreams and aspirations?

My dream is to just live a normal satisfying life where I can give back to the community I live in. I used to think my dream was to be highly successful and never have to worry about money, but over time especially with the pandemic and as I matured, a lot of thought on what I want from life changed. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just want the basics. The human mind has always fascinated me and as a mental health professional, I live to guide people towards a better life. So my goal is to progress further within my field of work, earn more experience, move up the ladder of quality within it. But my main goal is to be happy and spread happiness, something I practice doing and work towards every single day these days.
