Combating the menace of waste pollution has become an environmental challenge globally. Especially, plastic pollution which is the most hazardous, capable of affecting a large percentage of the earth including land, waterways and oceans.
Being nonbiodegradable in nature, it causes ill effects to soil as well as emits toxic gases when exposed to some extent. Controlling this critical problem has become a necessity and many are working towards ending this menace for a clean environment, Zeeshan Khan being ahead of all.
He is a leading environmentalist who has taken up the task of making this world a better place to live in by implementing various initiatives which work for clearing up environmental hazards from the planet.
Apart from running his core organization ‘Beyond Smart group’, he is also the co-founder of ‘Relive Eco Foundation’, which is growing its presence in different states and spreading waste management awareness through its various initiatives.
His most recent initiative named ‘#DisposeSafely campaign’ which he started on 22 April 2020 to spread the knowledge of safe disposal of masks and gloves which can prevent further spread of the pandemic was well appreciated from all quarters.
The campaign found supporters in environmentalists from 12 different countries, who made the campaign popular on a global platform by using the hashtag to raise awareness through multiple social media networks.
When asked about what made him focus on this subject, Zeeshan says, “according to studies most of these masks are made from plastic micro-fibers and going by the amounts of masks used across the globe, disposing it off safely is also a matter of concern.
Hence, I took up this opportunity to spread awareness about the right disposal methods, which results in a much better environment as well as prevents the disease to spread more.”
Zeeshan says that he along with his team has successfully recycled more than a thousand tons of waste plastic in the past few years, which is quite impressive. He also started a unique concept called ‘Pickating’ which involves skaters picking up waste along the way.
He introduced this first in the city of Bhopal, from where he hails, and will soon expand to other cities to get the message of keeping the surroundings clean and make the city litter-free. One can proudly term Zeeshan as India’s Swachh Bharat icon, looking at the outstanding work he is doing in the field of waste management.
