At just 22 years of age, Tom McPherson has achieved more than most of us could hope to attain in a lifetime. Born with an energy and drive that immediately sets him apart from the crowd, McPherson has always lived with a fierce desire to be the best at everything he does.
This is exemplified in his wildly successful automotive membership platform, Motor Culture Australia. Since its inception in 2020, the site has expanded to a membership of over 100,000 people, while McPherson and his team continue to diversify the services and programs offered.
Always one step ahead of the game, McPherson is actively working on other business ventures, and is planning on growing these, along with Motor Culture, into internationally renowned brands. Having successfully capitalized on the cryptocurrency market, he is also looking into commercial real estate and aims to achieve a net worth of $50 million within the next five years.
Here are some words of wisdom for anyone wishing to follow in Tom McPherson’s footsteps:
As an entrepreneur you need to be resilient and stay focused
I’ve dealt with hate, friends telling me to stop taking risks, to stop wasting time and money, telling me I should just get a job and play it safe. But I was resilient. I knew I would never be satisfied working a 9 to 5 so I persisted and stayed focused on my goals. I was lucky to have a lot of support from my family, but in today’s world, when it’s so easy for people online to ridicule you, resilience and focus are the only things that will keep you on track.
You have to take risks
I believe there is nothing more detrimental to your dreams and ambitions than not taking any risks or leaving your comfort zone. If you never change what you’re doing, you’ll never change what you’re getting out of life.
Execution is key
The only thing more important than having a good business plan is executing your plan. In my experience, I’ve learnt that there is never a ‘perfect’ time to start. There is no secret to starting a business. The key is to just do it and learn as you go. I learn something new every day and am by no means an expert in business or investing, but I do execute my ideas and chase success rather than wait for it.
Stick to your values.
In business, investing and almost everything I do in life, I stick to my values. In the past, I have occasionally veered off track and left my values behind. And it’s during those times that you question the meaning of what you’re doing and even lose track of who you are. So for me, staying true to my values is what keeps me inspired, motivated and happy. And that’s important in any aspect of life
Hang around with people that make you better, not bring you down
When you spend all your time working towards your ambitions, the most detrimental thing to your motivation and progress is hanging around negative people. I have experienced people come in and out of my life throughout my journey. The most valuable lesson I have learnt is that surrounding yourself with the wrong people will crush your desire and willingness to chase your dreams. So be selective with those you choose to keep close to you.
Words to live by! This young Aussie is only just beginning to make his mark on the world; we’re sure to hear a lot more about him in the years to come.
