Ranking at the top of the search results is something everyone wants, but unfortunately… there are just way too many sites on the internet today and not enough free organic search spots being offered by Google. The end result is a massive amount of competitive, and a ton of sites dropping off the first page for their most sought after valued rankings.

What’s a site owner to do?

The good news is, there are ways to help your site and improve dropped rankings in Google — and many of them can be implement in just a few minutes times, while also not costing you any extra money in the process.

With all of this in mind, today we will be highlighting some experts tips and SEO advice that we’ve continually come across time and time again in the SEO industry. And with Google’s algorithms changing all the time, it’s best to try and implement these winning strategies earlier than later.

Let’s jump right in and see what we can do to help improve your lost rankings.

1 – Use a SERP Tool to Monitor Your Rankings at All Times

No matter what your existing rankings are, it’s important to have a process in place for you to continually monitoring where they are and how they are moving. Without a SERP tool, this will be virtually impossible.

You can see a list of the top SERP Tools here, along with a list of the most popular names in this space below.

  • SEMRush
  • WhatsMySerp
  • ahrefs
  • Zutrix
  • Sitechecker

By using a SERP checker tool in your daily content creation, marketing and SEO efforts, this will allow you to better understand what keywords and search phrases to go after. Nearly all of these tools will provide you with all of the latest stats on keyword volume, competitor scores, site optimization tips and long-tail keyword considerations.

It doesn’t matter which solution you are using, as long as you are using one. Most of them will also offer a free trial so you can see the many different features, site audits, keyword tracking and others tools and features included in each.

2 – Keep an Eye on Your Competitors and Their Rankings

In addition to keeping an eye on your own site rankings, it’s important to do the same for your competitors as well. The good news is, if you are using any of the mentioned SERP Tools above, this can easily be done.

When analyzing your competition, you will want to keep an eye on what keywords they are ranking for, their movement over time and also analyzing their content.

In fact, SEJ came out with a nice little outline of the best bullet points and key factors to analyze when doing any proper competitor research for SEO.

  • Identify Your SEO Competitors
  • Evaluate Keyword Difficulty
  • Look for New Keyword Opportunities
  • Analyze On-Page Optimization & On-Site Content
  • Dig into Competitor Backlink Profiles
  • Examine Site Structure & UX
  • Learn How They’re Leveraging Social Media
  • Try to Track Competitor Ad Spend

If you can create better content, get more backlinks and social shares, there is a good chance you can start outranking other sites and move up on the first page. This is especially true if you are already ranking on the second or third page.

3 – Add More Content and Resources to Your Top Rankings

Of the many different ways to improve your chances for ranking higher in the search results, one of the easiest ways is simply by adding more content to your ranking articles.

With most SEO sites now recommending content be at least 1,200+ words per articles, resources and content with more than 2000-3000+ words are even more likely to outrank the competition.

And as you can see through the chart below, the higher the word count, the higher the rankings for a site in Google.

And something else we found that was quite interesting, is that articles with longer word counts also get more social shares. The thought process behind this is that “the more words, the better the content” — even if people are only skimming through and reading a small portion of it.

However, you don’t just want to flood your site with more filler content. Instead, make sure it provides value and also includes videos, quotes, images, infographics or anything else you can provide as a reference that gives your content the edge over what’s already out there.

How to Win the War of Daily SEO Rankings and Google Algorithms

The world of SEO is nothing new and it’s changing all the time. The biggest factor in all of this, is that more sites are going live on the internet than ever before. And with the more sites out there, it will just continue to get harder to rank more often and higher.

With this in mind, focus on your best content right away and see how you can improve it even more. Through the use of additional content, backlinks, social shares and authority references, you should start to see some steady movement in the right direction.

And last but not least, if you aren’t using a SERP checker for your daily SEO activities, you are missing out big time!
